How to Write Your First Marketing Email (Simple Template That Works)

Stuck on your first email? I've got you.

No matter what industry you're writing for, this template works. Let's break it down!

The Universal Email Formula

Every good marketing email follows this pattern:

1: Problem → 2: Promise → 3: Proof → 4: Push

Let's write!

Step 1: The Subject Line (Problem)

Start with one of these proven formulas:

  • "Want [benefit they want]?"
  • "Tired of [problem they hate]?"
  • "Here's how to [solution they need]"

Examples that work:

  • "Want better morning coffee?"
  • "Tired of expensive gym memberships?"
  • "Here's how to book more clients"

Step 2: The Opening (Promise)

First line = Their problem or desire

Pick one:

  • "Imagine if..."
  • "Ever wished..."
  • "What if you could..."
  • "Here's the thing about..."

Step 3: The Middle (Proof)

Try to stick to 3-4 lines maximum:

  • Name the solution
  • Give one key benefit
  • Add one proof point
  • Mention time/scarcity (if real)

Step 4: The Close (Push)

One clear action:

  • "Click to [specific benefit] →"
  • "Get your [specific thing] →"
  • "Start [desired outcome] →"

Let's Put It Together (Example)

Subject: Want better morning coffee?

Ever wished your first cup of coffee actually lived up to your expectations?

Our new Mountain Sunrise blend makes that happen. Rich, smooth, and perfectly roasted for morning drinking. And unlike store brands, every bean is roasted less than 24 hours before reaching you.
